Classic Cars for Sale in Qatar

classic cars for sale qatar

Qatar's classic-car world runs quieter than Dubai's, and far more concentrated. One family museum, one annual exhibition, and a great deal of private ownership that never touches a public listing.

We built our Qatar service around that reality: private sourcing and private sales, for buyers and sellers who were never going to find each other through a dealer floor that does not really exist here yet.

The FBQ Museum and Qatar's one flagship exhibition

The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, about 20km west of Doha in Al Shahaniya, opened its dedicated car-museum wing in 2022. It now holds around 300 classic, sport and vintage vehicles spanning the 1900s to today, part of a private collection built over 50 years, with general admission priced at QR50. The same family, chaired by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, runs the Gulf-Qatari Classic Cars Association and its Qatar Luxury Classic Car Competition and Exhibition on The Pearl Island each year. The sixth edition ran 19 to 23 November 2025 under FIVA-standard judging and the patronage of Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, with about 40 percent of the entered cars arriving from elsewhere in the GCC.

A separate Qatar Auto Museum, designed by Rem Koolhaas's OMA for Qatar Museums and including a planned Classic Cars Restoration Centre, has been announced for the Lusail Expressway but was not yet open as of September 2026, with no confirmed date. Beyond the FBQ Museum and the annual exhibition, we did not find a dedicated commercial classic-car dealer network in Doha comparable to Dubai's Tomini Classics or Nostalgia Classic Cars, and Mawater City, the mainstream 200-plus-dealership marketplace here, deals mostly in everyday used cars rather than collector pieces.

Why private sale is close to the only real channel here

With no dedicated dealer network and no confirmed Bonhams, Collecting Cars or Classic Trader presence in Qatar, the public infrastructure that supports auction and dealer sales elsewhere in the Gulf simply is not built out here yet. Most serious Qatari transactions we see happen through direct introductions between people who already move in the same circles as the FBQ Museum and the annual exhibition.

That is the model we run formally rather than informally. On a purchase, we find cars through direct relationships rather than a showroom you could walk into. On a sale, the car is never listed anywhere public, so there is no catalogue entry and no hammer price for a competitor or a curious neighbour to reference later. In a market this concentrated, discretion is not a luxury add-on: it is the only way a serious sale actually gets done without half of Doha's collector circle hearing about it first.

  • Matching numbers checked where the model carries them
  • Service history gathered, whatever exists
  • A plain condition report before any introduction is made
  • No public listing anywhere, including Mawater City or a classifieds site

Buying or selling, message us directly. Sellers can start with a quiet valuation before we ever mention the car to a buyer.

What collectors in Qatar hunt

Qatar's collector base is smaller than the UAE's but no less serious, and it skews toward cars that would hold up under FIVA-standard exhibition judging as much as in daily use.

Selling a classic car privately in Qatar

Selling in Qatar works best exactly the way buying does here: quietly. We start with a valuation built from international comparables adjusted for what we know of local demand, since there is no local auction result to benchmark against. Your car is never posted to Mawater City or any other public listing. We introduce it only to buyers whose interest and funds we have already qualified, which in a market this size often means someone already known to the FBQ Museum circle or the annual exhibition crowd. The F355 above has been repriced hard over the last few years: Hagerty named it a 2025 Gold Index Pick and Bull Market List entry, noting that excellent-condition values have almost quadrupled since 2019, which is exactly the kind of number a private seller benefits from knowing before naming a price. Our guide to selling a classic car privately and our 964 vs 993 buying guide cover the detail on valuation and condition.

Registering and importing a classic in Qatar

Standard light-vehicle imports are generally capped at 5 years old from manufacture, and registration runs through the Ministry of Interior's Istimara system alongside mandatory Fahes technical inspection, regardless of the car's age once it is legally in the country. Whether a classic or antique exception to that 5-year cap exists is genuinely unresolved: two import-policy pages we checked directly state no exception at all, while separate secondary sources describe a 35-year antique-vehicle exemption. This is the single most important open question for anyone planning to import a classic into Qatar, and we say so plainly rather than quote a number we cannot stand behind.

Duty runs 5 percent ad valorem on CIF value under the GCC Customs Union, confirmed through Invest Qatar, the government's own investment promotion agency. Qatar has not implemented VAT as of September 2026, despite committing under the 2016 GCC framework to an eventual 5 percent minimum rate and approving draft e-invoicing legislation in May 2026 as apparent groundwork. Hamad Port, launched in 2017, handles both RoRo and containerized vehicle cargo, with 2024 volumes of 130,684 vehicles by RoRo, up 62 percent year on year, and no classic-specific carve-out in the Fahes inspection process. Our container versus RoRo guide is worth reading before you pick a shipping method into Hamad Port. Confirm the exemption question directly with the Traffic Department or a licensed Qatari customs broker before you commit to shipping, and treat Qatar's classic-import picture as considerably less developed than the UAE's clearer 30-year rule, covered in our UAE import guide, until a broker confirms otherwise in writing for your specific car.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a classic-car exemption from Qatar's 5-year import age limit?

It is genuinely unresolved. Two import-policy sources we checked state no exception exists at all, while other sources describe a 35-year antique-vehicle exemption. Confirm this directly with the Traffic Department or a licensed Qatari customs broker before you commit to shipping a specific car, since the answer materially changes what you can legally bring in.

Where do Qatari collectors actually buy and sell classic cars?

Mostly through private introductions. We did not find a dedicated commercial classic-car dealer network in Doha, and Mawater City, the mainstream marketplace here, deals mostly in everyday used cars. The FBQ Museum and the annual Qatar Luxury Classic Car Competition and Exhibition are the closest things to public gathering points, but transactions themselves tend to happen off to the side.

Can I get my car judged at the Qatar Luxury Classic Car Competition and Exhibition?

The exhibition runs under FIVA-standard judging on The Pearl Island each November, organized by the Gulf-Qatari Classic Cars Association, with around 40 percent of past entries arriving from other GCC countries. Entry criteria and judging categories are set by the organizing association directly, so contact them for a specific car; we can advise on whether a car is exhibition-ready condition-wise.

Does VAT apply to a classic car import in Qatar?

No. Qatar has not implemented VAT as of September 2026, though it committed under the 2016 GCC framework to an eventual 5 percent minimum rate. Standard 5 percent customs duty still applies on CIF value under the GCC Customs Union.
